Thamizhachi Thangapandian is a Tamil poet, writer, dancer, dramatist and a spokesperson. She is a very successful and versatile woman who has always received appraisal and respect for her work. She was born in a small village called Mallanginaru in the Viruthunagar district of Tamil Nadu. Her real name was Sumathy, which she later changed to Thamizhachi to express her deep love and admiration for the Tamil culture. Her father, V. Thangapandian was a highly educated man who was a teacher by profession.
He later turned to politics and joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Party, after which he won the elections and became a member of the legislative assembly of Tamil Nadu. Her mother was also a teacher in the Panchayat School. Her brother, Thangam Thennarasu is also a politician who was appointed as the Minister for school education of Tamil Nadu from 2006 to 2011. Coming from a family of such knowledgeable people, it is highly evident that Thamizhachi Thangapandian is a learned woman herself. After completing her graduation and post graduation from Meenakshi college and Thiyagarajar college, she decided to pursue M.Phil. in English literature. Till 2009, he worked as an English lecturer in Chennai.
She has written a large number of poems and articles and her literary works have been published as several books, some of which are the Vanapechi, Arukan, Kalamum Kavithaiym, Manjanathiin Tamil and Island to Island in English. She has received numerous awards and accolades for her literary works including the highly esteemed Pavendhar Bharathidasan award in 2009. She has also performed as a theater artist and has received the Young Achievers Trophy in Theatre. In 2014, she wrote the story for the Tamil paranormal thriller Pisaasu.
The movie was praised for being different than other contemporary horror films and for inserting an emotional twist to the genre of horror. Thamizhachi Thangapandian also wrote the song, Nathi Pogum Koozhangal Payanam for this movie. She is the wife of Mr. Chandrasekhar IPS and she has two daughters, Sarayu Chandrasekhar and Mithila Chandrasekhar. She is the orator of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Party and she is known to fight for the causes of the rural people of Tamil Nadu and provide them her assistance when required.
