Deepa Miriam

Deepa was born in the year 1981 of April. She is from the United Arab Emirates but a Malayalee-Catholic family; she did her schooling there and started learning to sing at a very young age. She won ‘Best Child Singer Award’ in a music competition conducted by the Umm Al Quwain Radio in U.A.E. Her age or her maturity in understanding the music was never been a barrier. At her age of 7, she started learning Carnatic music.

She took part in most kind of musical competition like classical, semi-classical, light music and she won First place in all. Deepa cleared her 12th Standard board exams with distinction. She showed equal concentration in both her academics and music. She then came back to Kerala to begin her graduation in an engineering field and attained her B.Tech degree. Her love for Music also continued in other hands, as she took courses to learn Hindustani music from the Kerala University. Took piano lessons for three years at Trinity College, London and simultaneously she did her Masters in Chicago, New Jersey.

When she was planning to settle there with a job, she was brought to India for giving her a debut song ‘Thaen Kudicha Nilavu’ in a Tamil movie, ‘Naan Avanillai’. Her livelihood begin here from then on, she was married to John on 2007 and decided to settle down in Chennai. In her next song, ‘Kangal Irandaal’ from ‘ Subramaniapuram Subramaniapuram is a Tamil serial that airs on the >> Read More... ’ (2008) won her awards for ‘Best Playback Singer’. Her journey turned to be divine and blissful when she sang spiritual song ‘Viswasanthi’ praising Lord Jesus at her age of 12.

Deepa’s singing had no bounds to language as she knew Malayalam, English, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, and Arabic languages. As she has sung 40 private albums, it would be great to sing with legendry singer K. J. Yesudas as a duo, but to sing a spiritual song would be perfect. A song named ‘Diviya Hridyam’ was released in 2005 which shone her in spiritual field.

Awards enlist for ‘Best Female Playback Singer’ includes ‘Lime Entertainer’ and ‘Benze Group’ in the year 2008. For the song ‘Kangal Irandaal’ in ‘Subramaniapuram’ she won ‘Film Fare Award’ and ‘GMMA Award’ in Dubai in the year 2008. Tamil Nadu Cinema Kalai Mandram gave her award for the Best Playback Singer in the year 2009 and 2010.
