Kandaswamy Bharathan

Kandaswamy Bharathan is currently Joint Managing Director of Kavithalayaa, a well-known Film and television production house based in Chennai. Kavithalayaa was founded by K. Balachander, Dadasaheb Phalke Awardee, and iconic Film Director with more than 100 titles to his credit. Twelve years of post-qualification experience in the Automotive and textile industry. twenty-eight years of experience as an Executive Producer of films overseeing many big-budget films such as Roja, Muthu (Dancing Maharaja), Saamy, Kuselan, etc. He represented the Indian film industry in international festivals and conferences, such as Cannes, Toronto, Los Angeles, and Tokyo International Film Festivals.

In 1998, marketing the film 'Muthu- Dancing Maharaja in Japan, which became a blockbuster, was given the Business Ambassador award for innovative marketing of a film in a cross-cultural context. This effort also resulted in Mr Rajinikanth becoming a massive star in Japan. Kandaswamy is currently an Adjunct Faculty at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) and Indian School of Business (ISB) teaching a course titled " Contemporary Film Industry - A Business Perspective". The course was conceptualized and designed by me and was recognized as an Innovation in Management education in India as it is the first of its kind course to be offered in premium Business Schools.

The vision is to professionalize the Indian entertainment industry through management education and research on new business models that will rejuvenate the industry. His goal is to produce and support the production of cross-over and multi-cultural films that can make a difference to the community through their aesthetic appeal and social relevance. Kandaswamy’s community contribution includes working as a Trustee of V-Excel Educational Trust, a non-profit foundation to assist children with learning disabilities. He is also a Trustee of ALERT, a non-profit foundation to help train people on emergency medical response.
