Born on 29th of October in 1931 is our lyricist Vaali, who has proven his skills as an outstanding lyricist in Tamil. He is popularly known as the Indian Tamil poet and has earned a lot of followers, fans and well-wishers. He was initially named as T.S.Rangarajan by his parents and later got his nickname as Vaali. Born in Srirangam, Madras Presidency, India, he had given a shot in every field he could work with. He has been a poet, lyricist, writer, artist and an actor. Among everything he has been a wonderful poet and a writer. He had worked for the Tamil Cinema industry for over five decades and has written around fifteen thousand songs which have inspired his followers. He enacted scenes behind the lens of ' Sathya', ' Hey Ram', ' Paarthale Paravasam' and 'Poikkal Kudhirai'. These movies have been a hit in Kollywood and he has written songs for many other films as well.

Later, he was awarded the Padma Shree award by the Indian Government which is recognised as the India’s fourth highest Civilian honour. He moved to Chennai seeking an opportunity in the Tamil Cine industry in the 1950s where he did not succeed at first. Lately, he received an opportunity from M. G. Ramachandran, a renowned and a famous hero who is loved by all. Later on, he found fame for his writings and was said to have competition with another famous lyricists like Kannadasan. He has written books namely 'Pandavar Bhoomi', 'Avathara Purushan', 'Krishna Vijayam', 'Ramanuja Kaviyam', 'Thamizh Kadavul', 'Krishna Bhakthan', 'Kalaignar Kaviyam', and 'Vaalibavaali', which made him a legend. It is indeed sad that he is no more in this world to treat us with words and letters, yet he remains in most hearts and minds of Tamillians.

His rhythm for the song "Amma Endru Azhaikatha UyirIllaiye" has been carved onto the stones in Trichy and has taken many in awe. He has treated MGR with the lyrics for 63 of his songs and Dr. Sivaji Ganesan with 70 of his songs. He remains one among the legends who can never be forgotten in the Tamil Film Industry. His laurels that were awarded are as Engal Thangam in 1970, Ivargal Vidhyasamanavargal in 1979, Varusham Padhinaaru and Apoorva Sagodharargal in 1989, Keladi Kanmani in 1990, and Dasavathaaram in 2008. He has directed the film 'Vaadaimalai'. As a writer, he showed his sincerity and interest for 'Kadavul AmaithaMedai' and 'Ore Oru Gramathile'. His work in television on the sets of 'Kaialavau Manasu', 'Vikaramadhithan', ' Thangamana Purushan', and ' Amudha Oru Aacharyakuri'. He is considered a legend for his work. His lyrics for Tamil songs is very popular and has melted most hearts.

Palani Bharathi

Palani is a Tamil poet and lyricist. He belongs to a popular literary family. His father, Sami Palaniappan & mother, Kamala. His father was a great poet who was the follower of Poet Bharathidasan. The Hindu commented years back upon the poetic work of Sami that he could be the succcesor of Bharathidasa when it came to poetry. Palani Bharathi is a good successor of his father. He is among the youngest lyricist. During 1991, he had his footsteps for the first time in the Cine-World. He dragged the attention of the Cinema World and the rest of the public with his lyrics. He had worked along with a lot of successful music directors namely- Isai Gnani Ilayaraja, Karthik Raja, Vidyasagar, Deva, S.A. Rajkumar, Sirpy, Bharathwaj, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Harris Jayaraj, A.R Rahman and many others. His lyrics had a great appeal in the villages. Magazines widely appreciated his mastery over the language. His notable works were - Neruppu Paarvaigal - A collection of poems, Veli Nadappu, Kaathalin Pin Kathavu, Mazhaippenn, Puraakkal maraintha iravu, Muththangkalin pazhakkuudai, Thanimaiyil vilaiyaadum bommai, Thanniril vizhuntha veyil, Thanniril vizhuntha veyil, Kaarrin kaiyezhuththu. He has been awarded with various awards. During 1996, he was presented with ‘CINEMA EXPRESS AWARD for Best Lyricist’ for the film Ullathai Alli Tha. In 1997 with ‘Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Lyricist’ for the film Kathalukku Mariathai. In 1998 he was given ‘Kalaimamani’ & ‘Kalai Vitthakar Kannadasan Award’. In 2007 he was awarded with ‘Isai Gnani Ilayaraja Award’. Recently he was presented with ITFA INTERNATIONAL TAMIL FILM AWARD’ for the film Pitha Magan. He had contributions not only for the cinema but for the TV world as well.
