P. Vasu, born as Vasudevan Peethambharam was born on 15 September 1954 in Kerala, India. He is an actor, director and a writer who has worked in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada film industry. His father was also in the film industry working for M. G. R. and N. T. R. as a make-up artist. He was so famous for his skill that he became the President of the make-up union in Tamil Nadu. After 30 years of doing this work, he started off with producing films and produced 25 films in Telugu and Tamil language. He was one of the famous film producers of his time. Vasu’s uncle was a cinematographer in the industry so, Vasu’ father along with Vasu’s uncle, M. C. Sekhar, worked in 150 films.
Vasu did his schooling from Wesley High School, Chennai. He tied the knot with Shanthi and had had one son and a daughter with her. Vasu has four siblings out of which two are brothers and three sisters. His career started off when he joined as an assistant director with C. V. Sridhar and after this he co- directed the movies like Mella Pesungal, Neethiyin Nizhal Madhumalar, and Paneer Pushpangal with
Santhana Bharathi. He faced a difficult time in the mid-1990s as all his directorial films received poor reviews from the audience and were a big flop. Vasu directed around 50 films and in 2013, he announced that he will be directing an English titled movie Curry In Love, but it got postponed because of delay in production. He received praises from the film industry and the government of the state and got awards for Best Screenplay and Dialogues for Nadigan, Best Director for Chinna Thambi, Best Screenplay and Story in Walter Vetrivel and a Filmfare Award for Best Direction. He is also a member of the committee asking for tax-free movies. His style of working was unique. He mostly worked on the films of masala genre which also had some action sequences. The theme of all his movies is family sentiment. He got the knowledge of fine nuances from C. V. Sridhar.
