Kavya G

Kavya G is a Tamil dancer who has worked as a choreographer for Tamil and Malayalam flicks. She is also the founder of the dance school Black Swan Dance. Kavya was born in the United States, where she pursued a bachelor’s in biochemistry and molecular physics. She also followed a bachelor’s in Spanish and went on to do post-graduation in elementary education. The Chennai dancer-cum-choreographer trained in Bharatnatyam when she was only four and a half years old. While learning the Indian classical dance form, she also began training in Jazz. Kavya continued learning Bharatnatyam until she attained eighteen years of age.

When she was pursuing her studies at the University of Arizona, she formed a group titled Om Shanti Click to look into! >> Read More... , credited with several performances and winning awards on many occasions. Kavya came to Chennai to pursue her interest in dancing and choreography. In 2016, she started her dance studio Black Swan Dance. In the dancer’s words, the studio’s title was inspired by a performance portraying the black swan. Kavya teaches a dance form called swanography at her studio. According to her, Swanography is a free-style dance form and is a fusion of hip hop, classical, kuthu, and others. She has also featured in Colors Tamil show Dance VS Dance, where she became one of the semi-finalists. During her performances on the show, she was highly appreciated for introducing novelty in her dance forms and expressions. Her dancing skills were commended by Brinda Master, Actor Nakkul, and others.

She choreographs and performs for different occasions like weddings, fashion shows, and pageants, Pretty Princess Pageant being one such event. Her studio has also organized tours across nations like France, Switzerland, and America, conducting swanography workshops. Besides, Kavya has also choreographed several music videos and a part in the Malayalam flick Godha, released in 2017.
