Sadhana Sargam is a playback singer of Indian cinema who predominantly now sings in South Indian and Bengali films. She debuted in Bollywood as a singer and has done playback singing in many Hindi films. She had initial training under her mother Neela Ghanekar, who was a classical singer too. Born as Sadhana Ghanekar in Mumbai on March 7, 1974, she changed her name to Sadhana Sargam on advice given by Kalyanji Anandji, who had promoted her singing career. 

Before starting her first playback chance in Tamil film, she had the privilege of singing along with other playback singers such as Alka Yagnik, Anuradha Paudwal, and Kavita Krishnamurthy. Sadhana has sung in many Indian languages for films, TV series and music albums. She is the only Indian playback singer who has sung in more than 24 Indian languages and perhaps the only North Indian singer to win a National Award for singing a South Indian film song.

She is a trained singer in Hindustani classical music that is why she could render south Indian film songs with ease. Be it Hindi, Tamil, Telugu or Bengali, she is comfortable singing in almost any Indian languages. She is also the favorite singer of AR Rahman who utilised her golden voice for few of his compositions. She is famous for her song 'Saat Samundar Par’ which is still popular today among listeners. In mid-2000's she tried her hand for Tamil playback singing. 

She became a very much successful playback singer in Tamil movies, and she received even her first national award for a song ‘Pattu Solli’ which was composed by maestro Ilayaraja for Tamil film Azhagi. The singer remains grateful to the maestro for giving her chance to sing such a beautiful melodious song. Some of her melodious Tamil songs are  "Amma Un Pillai", Sutri Varum Bhoomi, and En Nenjil.  She also had a privilege of doing playback singing for AR Rahman for films like Water, where she had sung three melodious songs (Aayo Re Sakhi, Piya Ho, and Naina Neer). 

Besides the song Saat Samundar, she is also quite famous for songs such as Neele Neele Ambar Par( Kalakar), Pehla Nasha( Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander), Tere Umeed Tera Inerzar (Deewana, O Palanhare Lagaan), Ahista Ahista (Swades) and many more. This versatile playback singer had sung a song with Kishore Kumar, Bappi Lahiri, R D Burman and Laxmikant Pyarelal.

She is one of the few Indian musicians who could surpass the expectations in her renditions of  songs of A R Rahaman and that is why she became the most popular singer in Tamil cinema giving playback for Vidyasagar and IIlayaraja. She has songs over 15,000 songs in all Indian languages.

Runa Laila is one of the most popular singers in the subcontinent, and perhaps the only singer who sang in many foreign languages too, She has a huge fan base across the subcontinent for her unique voice. Her mastery over various genres of music in different languages had given her international recognitions. She won many international awards, and she has given playback in Bangladeshi, Indiana and Pakistani movies.  She was born in Sylhet (Pakistan)  on November 17, 1952  and started her music career in Pakistan. But when Bangladesh was separated from Pakistan, she settled in Bangladesh and presented some evergreen songs. She has received Saigal Award from India and Nigar Awards from Pakistan. She has presented more than 15,000 songs in her career spanning for 25 years. Runa Laila, who was a regular singer of the film industry, has become very selective now.  She finds today’s songs are very substandard and too commercial. This Bangladeshi singer tried her luck in Bollywood and got her first break in Kalyanji-Anandji’s film, Ek Se Badhkar Ek.  She had sung the title song in this film and became an instant popular singer with this song.  Later on, she gained much popularity with songs such as ‘O Mera Babu Chail Cahbila” and ‘Damadum Mast Kalandar’. She is a fan of many Indian playback singers such as Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Manna Dey, Yesu Das, Asha Bhonsle, Mukesh, etc. She was noticed first by music composer Jaidev who gave her break in film ‘Gharonda’.  This film Gharonda provided some wonderful music by Jaidev. Female playback singing was done by Runa Laila, and her voice was a refreshing change from the usual voices that people got used to then. In this film ,she sang a duet with and even solo songs. Later Runa Laila. In 1974, she recorded a song named ‘Sadher Lau ‘ which was popular in Kolkata and even in Bangladesh. In 2009, she released her Punjabi wedding songs album and became more popular.  In 2012, she appeared as a judge for a musical show’ Sur Kshetra’ where she shared judge chair with another legendary singer Asha Bhosle. In 2015, she completed 5-decades of her musical journey. This playback singer started singing at a young age of 12, she got her first break in Pakistani film ‘Jugnu’ and become a prominent voice in Pakistan. She also appeared in TV shows in Pakistan and was doing playback singing in the movies as well.


Sajjad Ali

Sajjad Ali is a versatile singer from Pakistan who is at ease with semi-classical, pop, rock type of music. His father Shafqat Hussain was a Pakistani film actor. Sajjad was born on August 24, 1966. He has sung for music composers Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali and Amanat Ali Khan. His favorite lyrics writer for his composer was always Hasrat Mohani, Momin, and others. He also released his first album 'Master Sajjad Sings Memorable Classics' in 1979. The album had 12 songs and turned out to be a hit. The singer is also known for several other hit albums such as Bolo Bolo, Teri Yaad, Paniyon Mein, Chief Saab and Mahiwal. The singer also did playback singing for Pakistani movies such as 'Bol' and 'Na Maloom Afraad'. Sajjad also tried his hand in acting and direction. He acted and directed in a movie ‘Aik Aur Love Story.’ Later he acted and had sung in movie ‘Munda Tera Deewana.' Sajjad also had directed his first TV series ‘Love Letter’ in 1989. He has also acted in and directed the film Aik Aur Love Story. He also has his recording studio in Dubai. After wowing audiences with his singing prowess, the musician Sajjad Ali has turned into a poet recently. He is prepared to release a compilation of his poems that he has sung in his 35-year long career. The singer is of view that quality of music has gone through a decline in the music industry. The musician recently featured on the popular music show Coke Studio in Pakistan for a second time this year. This singer is based in Aman, United Arab Emirates. He was married to Noreen. The couple has two sons and two daughters. Sajjad’s two brothers are also a popular musicians in Pakistan.
