A Kumaran is a cinematographer by profession in the Indian film industry. He works predominantly into the Tamil film industry. He was born in Chennai which is in Tamil Nadu, India. He completed his schooling from St. Johns Higher Secondary School in Tamil Nadu. He pursued the degree of B. Tech. in the field of Information Technology from the college named SreeSastha Institute of Engineering and Technology.

During the early stages of his career, he started working with a cinematographer named Vaidhy. He worked at the post of an assistant cinematographer in many Tamil movies as well as in several Malayalam and Kannada films.
