G. Sakunthala was born on August 19, 1932, in Chidambaram, Thanjavur District, Tamil Nadu. She was an Indian film actress and a dancer also. Throughout her life, she worked extensively in the Tamil industry. She was a prominent actress in the Tamil film industry in the 1950s and early 1960s. G. Sakunthala began her acting career in 1950. She first appeared in Manthiri Kumari, a Tamil film starring MGR, in 1950. She portrayed the part of Jeevarekha. She continued to appear in several different films in the subsequent years. Her career as an actress started in 1950 and ended in 1972, after three decades. In 1972, she appeared in Idhaya Veenai with MGR.
In that film, she portrayed Mangalam. G. Sakunthala's works include Manthiri kumari, Thaaikkuppin Thaaram, Mannadhi Mannan, Athey Kangal and Idhaya Veenai, among others works. Throughout her professional life, she appeared in 150 films in the Tamil film industry. Her career significantly turned in 1963, when she received the Kalaimamani Award from the Tamil Nadu government.
