PG Premlal

P G Premlal is a filmmaker, director, and scriptwriter in the Mollywood industry. He was born in Puthenchira, Thrissur. He spent his college days at Christ College, Irinjalakuda. At the beginning of his career, he took on the roles of copywriter, short story writer, and freelance journalist. In 1997, under the music direction of Vidyadharan, Premlal worked as a cameraman for a series of folk songs on Doordarshan. Since 1998, he has been directing advertisements and has grabbed opportunities to work with renowned cinematographers such as P. Sukumar and Ekambaram.

Premlal wrote and directed an independent short film based on the work of the Norwegian Nobel laureate Knut Hamsun, Call of Life, titled Jeevithathinte Oru Divasam, in 2008. His Mollywood directorial debut, Athmakadha was released in 2010 and endorsed by well-known Malayalam actor-director Sreenivasan. The movie was selected and shortlisted for international film festivals such as Indian Panorama and IFFI Goa. It also grabbed Premlal the Ramu Kariat Award in the category of Best Debut Director and the Special Jury Award for Best Director in the 2010 Kerala State Film Awards. His other work, Outsider, came out in 2012 and was well-received by movie buffs. 

In the 2018 music album Ormapacha, Premlal composed the melody and directed the song Nadavarambathoru in the lyrics of Sethumadhavan.
