Jagathy N. K. Achary is a Malayalam film writer, actor, screenwriter and dramatist. He was born in the year 1924 in Jagathy, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala State in India, where he also studied. Achary took a degree in Bachelor of Arts before completing Law. He started out as an employee of the government before he became a staff artist in All India Radio (AIR), a public radio station in India. From there, he became a Program Executive in several stations until he took the position of a Station Director. He penned several plays for radio and over 20 plays for theatre.

Besides these, Achary is also a painter. He wrote the story, dialogues and screenplay of many Malayalam films and most of them became a box office hit. His first work was in Vimal Kumar’s Achanum Makanum in the year 1957, followed by Ummini Thanka in 1961 and Velu Thambi Dalawa in 1962.

Jagathy N.K.Acharya was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India on 1924. He was an Indian screenwriter and a famous dramatist. His son, Jagathy Sreekumar is a famous Malayalam actor. Jagathy too acted in various Malayalam movies and was immensely popular for his acting. Jagathy received his primary education in Kerala and Jagathy, soon earned a bachelor’s degree in Arts. He pursued to become a lawyer and continued his education and soon received a law degree. Jagathy initially worked as a government employee but was not satisfied with his job.

He left his job and settled as a staff artist at the All India Radio; he worked at various stations and controlled the forecasting of programs. He was soon appointed as the Station Director there and was soon a well-known artist around the state. While he was still working at the radio station, Jagathy used to write plays for the radio which became hit at the radios. Jagathy also wrote plays for the theaters and was soon recognized as an admirable screenplay writer. Jagathy not only wrote plays but also acted in a few of them.

Kalanilayam Theatre group were partners with Jagathy, and he delivered them various successful acts such as Kayamkulam Kochunni, Eleyedathu Rani Etc, which was well liked by the audience. Jagathy also wrote some humor’ plays and was also an excellent painter. Jagathy has worked for 22 Malayalam movies and wrote the story and dialogues for these films. In 1957, Jagathy first work Arcanum Makanum was released and did a fair business at the box office.

In 1962, Veluthambi Dalawa was launched; the movie was based on the revolt of the people against the rule of British East India Company, which did a fantastic business at the box office. Jagathy’s other works include Swimming Pool, Shakthi, Penpuli, Thapaswini, Sreedevi, Karinagam, etc. Jagathy last worked with Jayadevan for the 1988 release, Inquiline Puri and marked his end in the industry. Jagathy married Prasanna in the late 19s. He has five children Krishnakumar, Jagathy Sreekumar, Jameela, Murali (Step son) and Sugadamma (Stepdaughter). He was an inspiration for many people, and his works are commendable. Jagathy died in 1997 due to some old age diseases at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
