Chandra Lakshman

Chandra Lakshman is a famous television serial and movie actress from Kerala. Born in 1983, Chandra is the only daughter of Mr. Lakshman and Mrs. Malathi. Chandra was brought up in Chennai, and she has a degree in Hotel Management. Chandra’s entry into the entertainment industry was quite unexpected. She was a strongly focusing on her career in hotel management when an acquaintance introduced her to the show business. Chandra is a well trained dancer and a veteran of several stage shows and competitions. Chandra debuted in a Tamil movie “Mamas Elam” and later acted in Malayalam movies like “Stop Violence,” “Balram vs. Tharadas,” “Pauma Pula,” “Chakram” and “Kalyana Kurimanam.”

This beautiful actress became extremely popular through her roles in various Malayalam and Tamil serials. The powerful portrayal of Sandhra Nelikadan in the serial television Swantham won her a huge number of fans in Kerala. Swantham was telecasted by Asianet in 2003. It essayed the story of a loving brother and his over possessive sister. Her other popular serials include Magal, Kolamkal, Megam, Sthree, Kunguman, Jvala Aayi, Kathalika Neram Ila, etc. Chandra got the opportunity to do various strong negative roles also, which was a proof of her talent. Chandra’s role in Swantham was so intense that a group of women even tried to beat her up for her cruel actions in the serial.

This television and film actress was born into a Tamil Brahmin family in Chennai.  Having completed her graduation, she was first cast in a Tamil movie “Manasellam” in the year 2002 as Bala’s (Srikanth) sister. Bala played the lead role in this film. Then she entered into Malayalam movie industry, and Chandra had bagged the lead role in the action thriller Stop Violence. She was seen as Angelina in this film opposite Prithviraj Sukumaran. 

Chandra was also seen in supporting roles in other movies including, Chakram in 2003 as Madhuri. In 2005, Kalyana Kurimanam she played Kollu’s sister in this movie. In Boy Friend, she was seen as Mammukoya’s (Khader) daughter. She also had a special appearance in a song in this movie. The year 2006, saw her in Balram vs. Taradas as Salim’s wife. In Khaki, she played the role of Meenakshi.

She has numerous serials to her stride. She started in the year 2003 in Swantham as Sandra Nellikadan as a vamp. This role shot her to fame, and she became a household name. In Megham serial, she played Rini Chandrasekhar’s role for which she received awards and appreciation. In Devi, she portrays a versatile role, in Stree she plays a homely girl and in Jwalayayi, she is a vamp again. Chandra is also a trained Bharatnatyam dancer.

Chandra Lakshman, also known as Chandra Laxman, is an actress born in Kerala to Lakshman Kumar and Malathi. She acted in many Tamil, Malayalam serials and films. She started her film career in 2002 with the movie Manasellam in Tamil. The same year she made her Malayalam debut with the film Stop Violence. She was a professional Bharatanatyam dancer. She completed her schooling from N.J school, Chennai. Later she completed hotel management course from M.G.R. Institute of Hotel Management.

Her film career started when director Santhosh saw her and gave a chance in Manasellam. Later she acted in many Tamil and Malayalam films like Chakram, Payampuli, Balram Vs. Taradas, Thillalangadi, April Maadhathil, Boy Friend, etc. Though she acted in many films on the big screen, she has not been up to the mark. She came to lime light only through serials.

Her debut serial is Swantham in Malayalam. She mostly played negative roles on the small screen. Her role in Swantham as Sandra Nellikadan gained her critics appreciation.  She also acted in other Malayalam serials like Kumkumam, Megham, Devi, Stree, Jalam. Her character as Rini Chandrasekhar in Megham bought her many awards. She then entered Tamil small screen with the serial Kolangal.

In her latest interview with the Deccan Chronicle, she told that she was starting her second innings in Malayalam after six years with the serial Mazha Ariyathe.
