Raveendran is an Indian actor and television anchor known for his roles in Tamil and Malayalam movies. Raveendran made his Tamil film debut with the Shankar starrer, "Oru Thalai Ragam". He also had memorable supporting roles in "Per Sollum Pillai",
", "Thanga Magan", and "Ranga". The Raveendran’s hits were mainly in Malayalam films before he decided to hang his boots from acting. "Kutravaaligal", "Poikkal Kudhirai", "En Priyame", and "Echchil Iravugal" portray Raveendran in prominent roles. Following a hiatus from movies, Raveendran played one of the protagonists in the
directed film "
". Raveendran is also acknowledged for his portrayal of a barber in "Poikkal Kudhirai". The Sathyan Anthikad directed "
" saw Raveendran make his scriptwriting debut. Raveendran is also in charge of the Kochi Metro Film Festival.
Originally born as Thampi Elias to parents, Elias, and Dr. Saramma, Raveendran grew up in Tripunithura in Kerala. Raveendran took up acting classes from the South Indian Film Chambers in Chennai. Later on, he pursued a degree at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune. Raveendran started his movie career in 1980 with four movies, the
directed "Swandam Enna Padam", the Shankar starrer "Oru Thalai Ragam", the R.Thyagarajan directed "Anjatha Nenjangal", and "IV Sasi’s drama", "Ashwaradham". 1981 saw Raveendran in the
starrer "Kaahalam" and the Hariharan directed "Varanmaare Aavasyamundu". In 1982, Raveendran featured in the Kamal Hassan starrer "Sakalakala Vallavan", the Rajesh starrer "Anal Kaatru", the Prathap Pothan starrer "Echchil Iravugal", and the Hariharan directed "Anuraagakkodathi". During this time, Raveendran also appeared in the J. Sasikumar directed "Madrasile Mon", the
starrer "Kaalam", the Rasheed Karapuzha directed "Veedu", and the
starrer "Bheeman". In the year 1983, Raveendran featured in the Rajinikanth starrer "Thanga Magan", K. Balachander’s comedy, "Poikkal Kudhrai", and the
directed "Thimingalam", among many others. The late 80s saw Raveendran in the
directed "Kutravaaligal", the Sivakumar starrer "Unakkaagave Vaazhgiren", SP. Muthuraman’s hit movie "Per Sollum Pillai", and "IV Sasi’s Rangam", just to name a few.
The millennium decade featured Raveendran in Malayalam films such as the "Fazil’s drama", "Pappayude Swantham Appoos", the Kamal directed "Bhoomi Geetham", the Saji directed "Cabinet", and the Jayaram starrer "Customs Diary". Raveendran was also seen in
", the Dileep, and
starrer "Chakkara Muthu" and the
directed "Kili Poyi". However, Raveendran was lauded for his lead role in the Aashiq Abu directed "Idukki Gold". Raveendran is married to Suma and is the father of three children.
