Kalavoor Ravikumar

Kalavoor Ravikumar is a renowned screenwriter and film director who predominantly works in Malayalam cinema. Basically, he is a Zoology student having done his graduation from Kannur S.N College, later on, he did his PG course in Malayalam from Madras University too.

He added another feather in his cap when he completed his PG Diploma in Journalism from Trivandrum Press Club. Born in Kalavoor, Alappuzha district of Kerala, this filmmaker now stays in Kuriyachira, Thrissur. His parents are Kalavoor Kumaran & N.M Padmavati and he has two children and they are Nelachandana & Suryachandana. This was a comedy movie that had Mukesh, Madhoo in lead roles. For his first project, he was assisted by Rajeev Kumar who was also the screenwriter of the movie. So far, Kalavoor had worked in 14 projects in which he was a screenwriter for 13 films and worked as a director for three movies only. Films that he directed is 'Oridathoru Puzhayundu' which had a screenplay by Jijus Asokan and it starred K.B.Venu and Jenny in lead roles.

This was the only film he handled where he opted out from the screenplay. The film won Kerala State award. Father's Day (2012) was another Malayalam film directed by Kalavoor Ravikumar in which Oscar award winner Resul Pookutty made his acting debut in this film.

This film had Shehin, Indu Thampy, Revathi, Lal and Shankar Panikkar in lead roles and Kalavoor shared every credit as director, screenplay writer, a story-cum-scriptwriter too. In the year 2016, Kalavoor got engaged in a project with direction and as a screenplay writer for a Malayalam movie titled ‘Kuttikalundu Sookshikkuka’ which had Anoop Menon and Bhavana in lead roles.

One can understand that every movie he had directed or done screenplay work had socio issues focused. These films sent a message to the society and each film was a total family entertainer who had a unique script and narration. In the year 2012, he chose to do a screenplay for a script that spoke against mass marriage ceremony and the film was called '101 Weddings'. The story was written by Shafi and Kalavoor did the screenplay job. It was indeed a bold project which was produced by Shafi's brother Rafi Mecartin.
