K. Surendran is one of the famous Malayalam novelists. He was born on 22 February 1921 in Ochira (Kollam district), Kerala. He has worked in the Department of Post and Telegraph. Later he resigned from the job to become a full-time writer. He has written many novels and plays. He won Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1963 for Maya, the Vayalar Award in 1994 for the novel Guru. He also won the Sahitya Academy fellowship Award in 1997. Maya and Kaanapponnu are his famous novels; Maya shows how materialism makes society hard. Kaanapponnu is a novel by dual writers, Parappurath and K. Surendran. After the death of Parappurath, K. Surendran completed it. He has also written screenplays for Etho Oru Swapnam and Maya. He died on 9th August 1997 at the age of 76. He is still living in this world through his novels and plays.
