Samvrutha Sunil

This Kannur born actress, who made her debut with ‘Rasikan’ in 2004, has ever since been a much-cherished name for the average Malayalee. Her successful eight-year-long career has undoubtedly left a tangible mark in the Malayalam film industry. Samvrutha Sunil was born on October 31, 1986, to Chalatt Sunilkumar and Sadhana. She’s an alumnus of St Theresa’s College and Annamalai University. Under veteran director Lal Jose’ guidance, Samvrutha made her debut with the 2004 Dileep starrer movie Rasikan.

Rasikan was followed by ‘Nerariyan CBI’ and ‘Chandrolsavam’ with Samvrutha in prominent roles beside Mohanlal and Mammootty; the two giants of Malayalam industry. With this, Samvrutha sealed her space and continued to rise through ‘Achanurangatha Veedu’, ‘Moonnamathoral’, ‘Vaasthavam’, ‘Arabikatha’, ‘Chocolate', ‘Thirakatha’, ‘Diamond Necklace’, ‘Neelathamara’, and ‘Mallu Singh’. In 2007, she won the Vanitha Film awards for ‘Arabikatha’ (Best Actress in a Supporting Role) and in ‘08, the Asianet and Jaihind Film Award for Supporting Roles in ‘Minnaminnikootam’ and ‘Neelathamara’ respectively.

In 2010, she won the Kerala Film Critics Association Award and finally in ’11 Asianet Film Award for Popular Heroine. If ‘Minnaminnikoottam’ saw Samvrutha as a loyal and tolerant wife and friend, in ‘Neelathamara,' she donned the role of a jealous young wife. While in ‘Arabikatha’ Samvrutha turned Gulf-based doctor, in Diamond Necklace she suffered from cancer. This incredible range of characters seeks its trajectory from ‘Rasikam’ wherein she is a simple village belle, and one can evidently see how much she has grown as an actress through the years; especially through ‘Vaasthavam’ and ‘Mallu Singh’ where she returns to her inception role. Particularly, as ‘Nandana’ in ‘Chocolate’- a rom-com on college romance- she became a favorite among youngsters. After her marriage to Akhil Jayaraj on November 1, 2012, Samvrutha officially retired from the industry. Currently, she resides in the US with her husband and their son, Agastya Akhil.
