Rafeeq Ahammed was born on 17 December 1961 at Akkikavu, Trichur, Kerala, to Syed Sajjad Hussain and Thithayikutty. Rafeeq is a Malayalam poet, lyricist, and novelist. He has won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 2005 for his Poetic work, Aalmara, and is a Five-time winner of the Kerala State Film Award for Best lyrics.
Rafeeqis considered as one of the finest and successful Malayali artists, with more than 600 songs in his credit for about 400 Malayali films.
He graduated in English literature from Sree Krishna College, Guruvayur. Rafeeq married Laila, and today, he is blessed with two children, Maneesh and Lasya. His first work as a lyricist was in 1999, in the film Garshom, directed by P.T. Kunju Muhammed. After the success of his first film as a lyricist, there was no looking back for him.
His second work was
, directed by Kamal. It was M. Jayachandra who suggested Rafeeq to Kamal, as Jayachandra had worked with Rafeeq and was impressed by his work. His first novel, Azhukkillam, was serialized in Mathrubhumi Weekly, and his book is available on Amazon.
He also won 3 Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist(south) for his work in Anwar, Spirit, and Ennu Ninte Moideen. Apart from winning Filmfare Awards, he also won many Poetic awards, such as Olappamann Memorial Award for Paarayil Pathiinjathu(2000), Odakkuzhal Awardfor Rafeeq Ahammedinte Kavithakal(2014).
In recent times, he received Swathi-AyyappaPanicker Literary Award in the year 2019. Some of his notable works include‘

Many of his songs depict the love and affection; one such song is, ‘Thekkani Kolaya Chumaril,’ this song expresses the immense love between two people who belong to different religions.
