OS Unnikrishnan(born 1973) is a lyricist. He was brought up in Mundancavu, a small village in Chengannur of Alappuzha district, Kerala and is the only son of Shivasankara Pillai and Thankamma. OS’s father was a farmer and the family had to suffer financial crises.

He did his schooling at Kallissery High School, Chengannur, and pursued graduation from Christian College, Chengannur and Distance Education from Calicut University. OS Unnikrishnan is married to  Jyothi and has three children: Gautham, Gouri, and Ganga.

The family lives in Umayattukara, Kallissery, Alappuzha, Kerela. OS Unnikrishnan loves writing and has composed wonderful songs. OS was an LIC agent by profession since 1999, but he kept chasing his dreams of becoming a lyricist and is now a very popular lyricist in Malayalam film industry.

OS Unnikrishnan’s life changed in Saraswathi Vaidika Gurukula Kendra founded by Acharya Narendra Bhoosan. Acharya Narendra Bhoosan helped OS learn Sanskrit and Vedic Philosophy. OS shifted his focus to Padayani which is a traditional folk dance and ritual art from Central Travancore and OS’s native place Mundancavu is famous for Padayani, so this made him more interested in this field.

Unnikrishnan said that the rhythm of Pamba river, mystic blending of music and dance in Padayni inspired him a lot which paved his way towards the Malayalam industry making him a popular lyricist. This school changed him into a selfless human being and from here he began to realize his dreams and talent of writing songs which led him to the Malayalam film industry and made him a very successful lyricist.

OS got an opportunity for the first time in 2010 in a thriller movie Avan, directed by Nandan Kavil. OS Unnikrishnan wrote many songs like Analakkannai, Thozha En Thozha, Vazhiyorathenno, Maayaathe Nilppu, Shadamgurapura, Agnijwaalayaay, Oru Kunjukaattin, Poy Maranjo in the movie Avan in 2010, directed by Nandan Kavil, and Ithra Pakalinodu, Aaranu Maanathe, Pularoli Pakarum in the film Lasagu in 2014, the director being Sumod Gopu.

OS has rewarded the Kerala State Film Award for Best Lyrics in 2014 for the film Lasagu directed by Sumod Gopu. OS Unnikrishnan is the rising star of Malayalam movie songs. He has got many films under his belt and also has penned down many songs. OS Unnikrishnan, even in his free time, prefers writing songs. He has already written many songs for upcoming movies.

Shabareesh Varma

Shabareesh Varma is an Indian Lyricist, Sound Engineer, Actor and Playback Singer. He primarily appears in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films. Varma is popular for his rendition of Pistah song in the movie Neram (2013). He also acted in Blockbuster movie Premam (2015). His lyrics in Premam are also famous. Varma was born on 23 August 1985 in North Paravur in Kochi, Kerala. His father P.K. Nandana Varma is a writer and mother Sulekha Varma is a Carnatic singer. That is why he grew up in a cultural environment in his childhood. He completed his 12th from Samooham High School. After that, Varma joined M.E.S College in Marampally to study B. Com in Accounts. He was very active in extra-curricular activities in his school and college days. His passion about films driven his talent to the full potential. He participated in poetry recitation and poetry writing in his school. Varma also acted in many plays during childhood. In M.E.S, he met with senior Alphonse Putharen, who since then formed a brotherly relation. Varma attended the prestigious SAE Institute in Chennai for studying Sound Engineer whereas Alphonse read Filmmaking from the same College. He graduated with dual degrees in Audio Engineering and Music Production. After that, he worked as a mixing and sound engineer in various Tamil and Malayalam films including Ye Maaya Chesave, Soodhu Kavvam, Pizza, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, Nadunisi Naaygi and Jigarthanda. Then Varma and Alphonse started collaborating on various short films. Varma started his acting with a short film named ‘Cling-Cling.’ After that, he appeared in short film version of Neram. Varma’s first feature film was Neram (2013). In the Tamil version, he played the role of Johny. However, the thing that made him famous throughout the Kerala was the promotional song Pistah: The Run Anthem. The apparently meaningless lyrics with catchy tune became a runaway hit. IPL 2016 used the song as their theme throughout the tournament. Varma’s next project was Premam (2015). The coming-of-age film became a huge blockbuster, and the songs topped many radio charts. Varma’s writing in Scene Contra and Malare received widespread critical acclaim. Nevertheless, the biggest surprise of the film was Varma’s acting as Shambhu, which earned critical acclaim. He won Best Lyricist for ‘Malare’ in IIFA Utsavam Awards and SIIMA. Varma also received prizes for Best Debutant (Male) in Vayalar Samskarika Vedhi Fim Awards and Vanitha Film Awards. Varma has worked in three more films as a lyricist after Premam, including Double Barrel, Rock Star, and Anuraga Karikkin Vellam. Varma currently resides in Ernakulam, with his family. In a recent interview, he told that acting and writing are his main passion, not singing.
