Poovachal Khader

Poovachal Khader is one of the most talented lyricists in Malayalam film industry. Born in Poovachal, India, Khader first came into the scene during the 1970s, at the time all the old lyricists of the golden era were leaving the industry, and young Khader came in and made a great impact. Khader’s writing talents were first discovered by his teacher in school, when his teacher was publishing a magazine and he wanted Khader to just fill out the empty pages in the magazine. Khader used this situation to his advantage and he wrote a beautiful 24 lined poem.

This poem came into the notice of KC Kattakada, who at the time was a prominent poet, who had also written for the magazine. Kattakada expressed his desires to meet Khader and they bonded really well together. Kattakada asked him to read many other great books and novels and this polished Khader’s work. Khader lost his father at an earlier stage of his career, so he had to also look after his family. Khader completed his graduation and got a job in Kozhikode.

Khader made a connection with the city and one of Khader’s close friends, who used to work as a editor for Malayalam weekly would often publish Khader’s poems. This work soon was noticed by the I.V. Sasi. Sasi would work with Khader on the Malayalam weekly newspaper, and Sasi was also the art director of an upcoming movie at that time called ‘ Kavitha Kavitha is a famous South Indian actress. She has >> Read More... .’ It was Sasi who later helped Khader get into the film industry as Khader was finally asked to write lyrics for the movie Kaatuvitchavan. This would become the turning point of Khader’s life as this established him as a great writer of lyrics.

Some of the songs in the movie made huge impact and soon Khader’s work was getting praises from all over the country. Soon after his massive popularity and demand in the Malayalam film industry, Khader left his job and permanently moved to Chennai where he went on to pen some of the most popular and memorable lyrics ever written. Khader has now been credited for over 900 songs in the industry. He has dominated and revolutionised the film industry for over three decades. Khader would go on to write for many years and his latest work was in the 2019 movie Hridyam. Sadly, Khader is still due his state award, but he is at such a point of his life where he is above any sorts of awards.
