K.P. Sasi is one of India’s well-known cartoonist, director and an advocate of human rights. He was born on 14th March 1958, in Kerala. His father, K.D. Damodaran, was one of the founders of the communist party in India. He did his graduation from JNU, and while he was a student, he started working as a journalist. K.P. Sasi, a creative cartoonist ,and an exceptional director, has made several documentaries that showcases some important social issues and hence makes his work quite interesting. In 1987 he started experimenting with films on 8mm.
Some of his documentaries are ‘Science to people’(1984), ‘living in fear’(1986), ‘in the name of medicine’(1987), and ‘The Valley Refuses To Die’(1987). As a Director, he has made almost 30 documentaries. One of his most renowned works is ‘A climate call from the coast’ which is like a wake up call from the communists in Kerala who are witnessing several changes in the environment due to global warming. In the year 2004, he published the book ‘Imposters’ which is an accumulation of social issues that are depicted in a pictorial form.
He has also published a book called ‘When the birds stop singing’ that acts as a handbook on the issues of harvest, and pesticide in India. Some of the films directed by K.P. Sasi are ‘Ilayum Mullum’(2008), ‘Ek Alag Mausam (2003), and ‘Shhhhh…..Silence Please’(2008).Illayum Mullum ia a Malayalam Film that has been showcased in several Film Festivals and Shhhhh…Silence please, is a silent movie and is India’s First Gibberish Movie.
It conveys the story and message through music and creates a humorous environment causing the audience to enjoy and stay entertained throughout the movie. K.P. Sasi has been a great success in the Indian Cinema and has directed some major path-breaking movies. He has no dearth of talent and will continue to impact the Indian Cinema with his creations.
