Sundarashree

Predominantly working in Kannada Films and Theaters, Sundarashree is a popular Indian actress best known for her role in the play Trishanku. Her full name is Sundarashree Gubbi. She mostly acted in Kannada movies and TV shows. Some movies she featured in includes Kudre and Trunk. The movie “Trunk” is a Kannada Horror and Psychological thriller, released on 13th July 2018. Rishika Sharma directed the film, featuring "Nihaal," Vaishali Deepak, and Aruna Balraj beside Sundarashree as the main leads.

The film revolves around the true real-life story of a family residing in North Karnataka. “Rahul” is the main character of the story, and Sundarashree plays the role of his lady love's mother. Critics praised the Veteran actress Sundarashree for her powerful performance in the film. The film lacks proper execution, Sundarashree, and another senior actress Aruna Balraj are the only ones saving the plot. Their characters are the ones well-defined, others are a huge mess. The television sitcom, Guptagamini (2003) was one of her best works.

Sundarashree is the granddaughter of Gubbi Veeranna, a theatre director.  B. Jayashree, Vyjayanthi Kashi, and G.S. Nataraj are her cousins. Sundarashree went to the Government High School in Bangalore. She learnt acting at the National School of Drama. In 1970, Sundarashree was seen in Parophakari featuring Dr Rajkumar and Jayanthi. In 1979, Sundarashree played the lead role in Kaadu Kudure directed by Chandrashekhara Kambara. In 1986, she played in the TV series Malgudi Days. In 1989, Sundarashree was seen in the movie Bala Hombale. The same year, she worked in Ade Raaga Ade Haadu with Shiva Rajkumar and Seema.

In 1992, she shared the screen space with Shiva Rajkumar and Ranjitha in Purushothama. The same year, she shared the screen space with Rajkumar and Madhavi in Jeevana Chaitra. In 1996, Sundarashree was seen in Shrimathi Kalyana and Geluvina Saradara. In 2010, Sundarashree played an important role in Abhiram with Santosh and Akshata Shetty. In 2011, she was seen in Gun, directed by Harish Raj.

In 2018, Sundarashree played in a web series by Vinayak Joshi. In 2019, she played the role of Jogthavva in the Zee Kannada series Jothe Jotheyali. In 2021, she worked in the Zee Kannada series Puttakkana Makkalu. In 2023, Sundarashree was seen in Maavu Bevu, directed by Suchendra Prasad. In 2024, Sundarashree worked with Prabhakar Kunder and Raghav Shetty in Putta Bhaya. “Navya J Nayak” directed the film. Sundarashree was seen in Katheyondu Shuruvagide on Star Suvarna.
