P Lankesh is an Indian poet who worked for the Kannada language. He was born on 8th March 1935 in Konagavalli, Karnataka. Lankesh is a multi-talented poet, fiction writer, play writer, translator, screenplay writer, and journalist. He completed his honors degree in English from Central College at Bengaluru and completed his master’s degree in arts from Maharaja College, Mysore. In 1980, Lankesh quit his job as an assistant professor in English at Bangalore University and started Lankesh Patrike which was the first Kannada tabloid. Lankesh Patrike was a very popular tabloid that also influenced Kannada culture and politics.
His first work was the collection of short stories like Kereya Nirannu Kerege Chelli MattuIthara Kathrgalu in 1963, Kallu Karaguva, Samaya MattuIthara Kathegalu in 1990, Manju Kavida Sanje MattuIthara Kathegalu in 2001, and many others. Lankesh also got many awards including National Award for Best Direction for Pallavi in 1976, Sahitya Akademi Awards in 1993, Karnataka Rajya Nataka Akademi Prashasti, Aryabhata Sahitya Prashasti, and many others. He also worked in several movies for which his work is very appreciated. His work in films includes Pallavi in 1976, Anuroopa in 1978, Ellindalo Bandavaru in 1980, and Khandavide Ko in 1979.
