Doddarange Gowda is an Indian lyricist and poet, popular amongst the audience for his songs like Sri Rama Bandavne, Nammoora Mandara Hoove, Notadaage Nayega Meeti, and Tera Yeri Ambaradaage. Mostly known for his involvement in the Kannada Cinema, he was recently awarded the Padma Shri for the feats he has achieved throughout his career.
Born on 7th February 1946 to K Range Gowda and Akkamma, Doddarange was raised in Tumkur district of Karnataka. After completing B.A. and M.A. honors from the Bengaluru University, he worked as a professor and later, as a principal at SLN College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Bengaluru. Over the years, Doddarange has written lyrics for over twenty films, one hundred TV shows, and close to six hundred songs.
He has also been a Member of Legislative Council from the Bhartiya Janta Party. The multi-award winner veteran lyricist has been a part of the industry for around 45 years now.
Some of the renowned awards won by him are – Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Award for Poetry, Karnataka State Film Award for Best Lyricist (Ganeshana Naalage Kadalu - 1991), Karnataka State Film Award for Best Lyricist (Kayva – 1996), Karnataka State Film Award for Best Lyricist (Janumada Jodi – 1997), Attimabbe Award (2003), and the Padma Shri (2018).
