Y. R. Swamy was an Indian film director and screenwriter who was famous for his works in Kannada cinema. He directed 35 movies, out of those movies Rajkumar starred as an actor in 17 of them. He made his debut as a director in 1953 with the Telegu movie “Pratangina.” He directed films in Kannada, and his favorite genre was mythology and social connect. He started his career in the early 1950s as an assistant director to his father, who worked in Telugu films. He completed his first independent director in 1956 with the Kannada film “Renuka Devi.” After this, his next direction was in 1960 with the film “Bhakta Kanakadasa,” which was a huge success. He also wrote screenplays for a few films like “Swarna Gowri (1962)”, “Katari Veera (1966)” and “Bhale Raja (1969).” He directed several movies after that, and his last film as a director was “Bangaradantha Maga (1991).” Due to his contribution to Kannada cinema, he was awarded the Puttanna Kanagal Award (1990-91).
