Shweta Basu Prasad is a famous name on television, and she has had a decent stint in movies too. Her father’s name is Anuj Prasad and mother’s name is Sarmishta Prasad. Her mother is a Bengali while her father is natively from Bihar. Jamshedpur is Shweta’s birthplace. She is a pass out of R.N. Podar, which is located in Santa Cruz, Mumbai. She kickstarted her career in films as a child artist, and later she grabbed leading roles in Tamil, Bengali and Telugu movies. The break was when she got the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for the movie ‘Makadee’. The movie hit the screens in the year 2002. She was only 11 years old when she made her movie debut. Later, in the year 2005, the movie ‘Iqbal’ was released in which her performance got a lot of attention. She played the role of ‘Khadija’ in the movie. This movie brought her many subsequent film offers and roles. At the 5th Karachi International Film Festival, Shweta bagged an award for Best Supporting Actress for the movie Iqbal. Swetha Basu Prasad a well-known face in small screen and big screen. She has grown up in film Industry since her childhood by starting her career in Hindi films and T.V. Shows. Swetha had also won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist.  

Swetha was born in Jharkhand, Bihar in India. Her parents are Sarmishta from West Bengal and Anuj from Bihar. Her Schooling was done at the R. N. Podgar High School in Mumbai. Initially her name was only Swetha Prasad but later she added her mother’s maiden name “Basu” to her name. Swetha started her career in the entertainment industry by featuring in a small role as Vanshita in Hindi Serial called Kutumb in Sony Entertainment Channel.
In 2002, Swetha was featured as a child actress in Hindi movie Makdee for which she received the National Film Award and Star Screen Award for Best Child Artist. She acted in dual roles in this film, which is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. In the same year, Swetha was featured as Sweety in Hindi T.V. Serial broadcasted in Star Plus called Kahaani Ghar Ghar ki.

She got Star Screen Award for Best Supporting Actress and was nominated for the in IIFA Film Fare Awards and Zee Cine Award for Critic’s Choice Best Actress. She played the role of Khadija. This made her to earn mini-stardom in Film Industry. Later she enacted as Ashu in Hindi film Darna Zaroori Hai directed by Ram Gopal Verma.
In 2008, Swetha featured as SwapnaVishwanath in a Telugu movie KothaBangaru Lokam with co-stars Varan Sandesh. It was a huge success. Prasad was nominated for Best Actress in the Film Fare Awards.
In 2009, Swetha was featured in a Bengali movie Ek Nadir Galpo: Tale of a River as Anjana. It was directed by Samir Chandra co-starring Mithun Chakraborthy. The movie garnered several accolades. In 2010, Swetha was featured in Telugu movie Kalavar King as Shruthi. She shared screen space with Nikhil Siddharth Nikhil Siddharth is an Indian actor. He is known f >> Read More... , and the movie was directed by Suresh. The director once again remade the movie and released in Tamil as Eththan.

Later Swetha endeavored in two films in Telugu called Kasko and Priyudu. She also acted in few films in Tamil named RaaRaa and Chandhamama. 

An alleged prostitution case was filed on Prasad but she denies in an interview that the media was wrong. She was in detainment for fifty-nine and half days and stayed in a rescue home. She then came back to Mumbai on 30 October 2014. Swetha stated that she was busy in making a documentary film called “Roots” on Indian Classical Music since three years. She also co-produced and acted in twelve minutes short film called INT. CAFE NIGHT and it was very successful. This proved that the doors were not closed. Later the Hyderabad court gave her a not-guilty verdict since there was no sufficient evidence.
