Meenakshi Seshadri was born as Shashikala Sheshadri in Dhanbad in the year 1963. Her career is full of Hindi films and a few Tamil films. Before making her debut, she won the contest in the year 1981 at her teens. She is from a Tamil family in Jharkand. Her parents trained her in many forms of classical dances such as Kathak, Odissi, Kuchipudi and India’s national dance form Bharata Natyam. Painter Babu was her first film in her career. This film is said to be a bilingual movie in Hindi and Telugu. Hero was her next film, which had as the lead. This film was a super hit movie and made Meenakshi to change her decision of quitting the acting. Aawara Baap, Paisa ya Paisa, and were her initial stage movies. Meri Jung was the highest yielded film of that year, which Meenakshi paired with . She has also acted with Rajini Kanth in Maha Guru. She has paired with almost all the top heroes of the day like , Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, , and . Meenakshi made her debut in her mother language Tamil through K. Bhagyaraj’s En Raththathin Ratthamae. This film was a remake of Anil Kapoor’s Mr. India. After a gap, she was called upon by the veteran director K. Balachander to act in his film. She nodded her head immediately to the director and paired Prabhu in that film. It was a successful film with hit songs by A. R. Rahman. She married Harish and settled in .
