Nassim Soleimanpour, a renowned writer, and dramatist were born on December 10, 1981, in Tehran. He was enthralled by the artistic experimentation of writings ever since he was a child. He gave up engineering to join drama in the University of Tehran at the age of 22.
He said it was good but not easy for him to live in a family where everyone is a bookworm. He added that his parents spoiled every novel by discussing it over the meal. When asked about his relationship with drama culture, he fell for theater because of its charm of facing live people and their response.
It was a magic that other art forms lacked. Nassim’s artwork made him travel around the world with his brilliant writing and showcasing his work. He always believed in presenting the essence in front of people through drama.
He believes that putting the whole scenario in front of someone will make it easier to understand the whole story line-up. He made his career decision long ago that he didn’t want to work under Iranian government, and hence he decided to do good in drama culture.
Best known for his work in ‘White Rabbit Red Rabbit,’ he was awarded the ‘Dublin Fringe Festival Best Performance Award’ and several others like ‘The Arches Brick Award’ and ‘Summerworks Outstanding New Performance Text Award’.
He also secured major nominations for a Total Theater and Brighton Fringe Pick of Edinburgh Award. He wrote this play for almost seven years in his early 20s, when he couldn’t get a passport after refusing to give his service in the military.
His play ‘White Rabbit Red Rabbit’ voyaged around the whole world with astonishing impact because of its profound structure without having director, sets or rehearsals. Actors got their instructions about the acts within a couple of days of the performance.
The success of his debut play, fans appreciation, and their emails made him write several other plays like Blank, Blind Hamlet etc.
Soleimanpur says freedom is knowing that people are eagerly and cautiously listening to his play all over the world.
He is currently residing in Tehran, and also has facilitated several workshops across the globe including DPAC(Kuala Lumpur), World Theater Festival(Brisbane), SESC Viva Mariana(Sau Paulo), University of Bremen, etc.
