Denise grew up in Brooklyn with her two siblings. Her ancestors are of Puerto Rican, Dominican, and Greek descent. She went to John Dewey High School and studied Business at Long Island University.

She signed Ford models when she was only 12. She then began to appear in magazines such as Elle and Marie Claire, as well as campaigns for international fashion and cosmetics brands.

Her first break was in the TV show “Exposing the Order of the Serpentine” in 2006. She is best known for her appearances as Randi Hubbard on ABC's All My Children (2008–2011) and Raquel on Single Ladies (2011-2015).

She wedded an American film director Anthony Mandler in California, on 12 October 2013. The couple is blessed with two kids; a daughter and a son named, Lennox Mae Mandler and Dries Layne Mandler.

She is also well known for her passion for fitness. She always believed that eating well and working out is one of the first and crucial steps to pursuing a fulfilling life. However in 2015, after giving birth to her daughter, she realized the challenges that one has to go through while taking care of a baby and themselves. She then decided to help all her fans and followers who may go through the same things. This is how MAED was initiated as a startup.

She is very passionate about her career as well as her business. She regularly takes part in events that are meant for the betterment of society. In an event called "Save a Life" she helped raise $800,000 for addiction recovery.
