Nathanael Karmitz's debut short film, "L'homme Tele," was released in 1992. He started "NADA," a firm that produces short films and cultural events, in March 1995. In 1997, he joined mk2 to expand the company's film-related activities, notably the mk2 Project Cafe. The cafe specializes in video art. In 2000, he founded the subsidiary mk2 editions. He established the mk2 record label in 2001. He worked as a member of the designing team of the mk2 Bibliothèque complex, based on 19th February 2003, between 2000 and 2003. Nathanael became the 'content' team's head in 2004. His works include overseeing film development, cinema distribution, overseas sales, and publishing.
Nathanael Karmitz produced and co-produced various films, including Gela Babluani's "13 Tzameti," Gus Van Sant's Paranoid Park, Olivier Assayas' Something in the Air, and Summer Hours." The film "13 Tzameti" won the prestigious "Jury Prize at Sundance 2006" and "European Film Awards 2006."
Nathanael distributed over fifty films in France, including Miranda July's "Andrea Arnold's Fish Tank (Jury Prize in Cannes 2009)," Me and You and Everyone We Know (Golden Camera in Cannes 2005)," and Steve McQueen's Hunger (Golden Camera in Cannes 2008)." Her other works include "Serge Bromberg's Henri-Georges Clouzot's Inferno (Best Documentary Cesar 2010)" and Steve McQueen's Shame (Best Actor Award)." Nathanael Karmitz was the pioneer of the 3D and digital revolutions. He distributed Ben Stassen's “Fly Me to the Moon” in France. “Fly Me to the Moon” is his first deliberate 3D film.
He opened Germain Paradisio in the heart of Paris's Latin Quarter, the city's first on-demand, private, and luxury cinema. Café Germain's basement houses the theater. India Mahdavi designed the cinema solely. The theater multiplied as a landmark of Paris. In 2011, the very compact cinema in the club Silencio opened, followed by the mk2 Grand Palais in 2012. In 2014, the Palais de Tokyo added two new screens, “Madame and Miss.”
In June 2014, Nathanael purchased “CINESUR,” the most prominent theater chain in southern Spain and the largest in Andalusia. In Seville, Cordoba, Malaga, and Toledo, Mk2 acquired a network of 9 movie complexes and 110 cinemas. The theater has a capacity of 20,000 seats and about 4 million annual admissions.
