George Drakoulias, who was born in 1965, is a music producer of Greek and American descent. His hometown is Syosset, New York. When he was a teenager, he played the drums and later started playing bass. He became friends with the DJ at New York University, Rick Rubin, who was also aspiring to be a producer. Rick and Russell Simons started the label Def Jam Records, and it quickly rose to success. Rubin then formed his own company and took Drakoulias with him. This is where his talent was discovered when he was working as an A&R executive and a staff producer. He looked after bands such as the Black Crowes and the Jayhawks and helped produce their albums. In the year 1993, he produced You Gotta Sin to Get Saved by Maria McKee. In 1994, he changed his area of interest to British bands like Ride, Primal Scream, and individuals like Tom Petty and Dan Penn. In 1996, he was back on the American band scene when he signed the Freewheelers. This was followed by albums for the bands Screaming Trees and Reef. During the year 1999, he began to work for movies and television. His first stint was producing songs for the film Big Daddy, following which he was in charge of the drama show Wonderland. He was also the music supervisor for movies such as Zoolander, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Blade: Trinity, Zodiac, Blades of Glory, and Starsky and Hutch. He has also produced songs for the movies Team America: World Police and School of Rock. His impressive resume also lists Tropic Thunder, the Hangover, the Runaways, and Hancock. He was in charge of the music for 2009’s Star Trek and even had a character named after him. He had worked with Michael Giacchino, the composer, on two television series Before: Lost and Six Degrees.
