Siki Mgabadeli is a renowned South African financial journalist, television news presenter, and producer. She completed her degree in Journalism at Rhodes University. She started her career in 2001 at Summit TV, a satellite business news channel, where she worked as a reporter.
She covered news stories on daily business and economics. She also worked as a part-time news presenter. She is renowned for her anchoring skills in various television and radio shows for SABC on the public broadcaster’s business program Business Beat. She also hosted and produced the business news on the broadcaster’s programme Morning Live. She has also anchored shows on SABC3 Business@10, and on SAFM the shows Market Update and Morning Talk.
Siki has held various positions, in her career span of over 19 years, including as a business anchor and editor at the SABC’s economics desk, as a senior anchor at CNBC Africa, a presenter and anchor on SAfm and Moneyweb, and also anchoring the premier business Programme Moneyline on eNCA.
She is known for hosting the current affairs programme, The Big Debate on SABC2. She has moderated panel discussions for the World Economic Forum on Africa, the United Nations, the African Green Revolution Conference in Oslo, the IBSA Editor’s Conference in India, and the (Global Systems for Mobile Communications) GSM Association’s World Congress in Barcelona and their Connected Women Summits.
She is also a freelance business, financial news anchor and editor. She has been, twice named as the ‘Sanlam Financial Journalist of the Year- TV’ for the Reserve Bank MPC broadcast and pension fund industry of South Africa. Her name has been included in the ‘Mail & Gardian Book of South African Women’. She has been presented with the ‘Telkom ICT Journalist (TV) of the Year’ award, for a series of interviews she did to express on ways to bridge the digital divide between Africa and South Africa.
She was given the Emerging Old Rhodian Award for 2015 by her alma mater, Rhodes University, for her recognition as one of the leading public voices in the South African media in the financial sector.
