Gingger Shankar is an Indian-American music composer, popularly recognized for her work in the movie Circumstance (2011). Apart from her excellent skills as a vocalist, she is also known for playing the violin, viola, and double viola. Both of her parents were a part of the music industry at some point in their lives. Her father Dr. D.L. Subramaniam was a renowned violinist and her mother Viji Subramaniam was a classical singer.

Gingger was born in Los Angeles, California but brought up in Chennai, Tamil Nadu where she went to the Kalakshetra Creative Arts School.
