June Squibb

June Louise Squibb was born on 6th November, 1929 in the city of Vandalia in Illinois, USA.

She is the daughter of JoyBelle, who was a professional golfer and pianist. Her father, Lewis Squibb, was an insurance businessman, who was also a part of World War 2 as he was in the US Navy. She was married to Edward Sostek, who was an actor and theatre artist. The couple came together in 1953, but parted ways after six years of relationship in 1959. Later, she married Charles Kakatsakis, an acting teacher. He died in 1999.

She has a son from her second husband, Charles, whom she named, Harry Kakatsakis. Harry is a film producer by profession.

June began her career in acting in a musical theatre at St. Louis Muny. She got her major success in theatre in 1958, when she did an off-Broadway play called The Boyfriend. In this, she played the role of the character, Dulcie. Her second major play was Lend an Ear, in the year 1959.

Squibb has been a part of many national-international tours, summer stock, resident theatre and Broadway shows.

June debuted on the silver screen in 1990 with the movie, ‘Alice’. In this film, June had to play the role of Hilda. Even though it was a side role, critics appreciated June for her performance.

Other than this, she is the recipient of the 2014 Golden Globe Award, Independent Spirit Award, Critics Choice Movie Award, and New York Film Critics Circle Award (2013) for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role. She also received the Screen Actors Guild Award under the category Outstanding Performance by a Female in a Supporting role in 2014.
