Cheng Pei Pei is a Chinese actress born on December 4, 1946, in Shanghai, China. When she was 14 years of age, Cheng relocated to Hong Kong. She completed high school education and had six years of training as a ballet dancer.

Then, she joined the Shaw Brother’s art training course that moulded her career and acted as a springboard for her career success in the field of cinema as an actress. She had full-fledged training at the studios of Shaw Brothers. She made her debut in the arena of cinema portraying as a male in the film The Lotus Lamp in 1963.

She quickly became famous by making hr screen presence felt in her next movie Lover’s Rock in 1964. She was roped in for various movies and the similarities between all those films are that all of them were wu xia (Martial Arts) movies. When she was with Shaw Brothers, she almost signed for more than 20 motion pictures.

She earned herself the title “The Queen of martial arts”, and her role was justified when she starred in the classic picture Come Drink With Me in 1966. Before this release, she tried several films with different genres to see which one will suit her.

She acted in James Bond movies, musical films, and other stories. People called her as the Queen of Swords. She was cool, passionate, and lethal in her character. Some of the hits that followed include Dragon Swamp, The Lady Hermit, Princess Iron Fan, Golden Swallow, Hong Kong Nocturne, Brothers Five. She then migrated to the United States to get married and to start a new life and she stayed there for almost 20 years.

She was married to Yuan Wen-tung. She came back to Hong Kong in 1992 and was working in television dramas until she received the huge role of Jade Fox in the Oscar-winning film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. At the Hong Kong Film Awards, she claimed the Best Supporting Actress Award. She also produced a film titled Flying Dragon, Leaping Tiger in the year 2002. She got blessed with four children- Eugenia Yuan, Yuan Wor Chun, Marsha Yuan and Yuan Wor Yuk. Eugenia Yuan is an actress, and Marsha Yuan is a singer/dancer. Cheng has a nickname as well- Action Queen of Asian Cinema.
