She is a noted American comedian, actress, talk show host, and writer who graduated from Queens College in 1964 with a B.A. and MA degree from Stony Brook University in 1966. She tutored English on Long Island at Lindenhurst Senior High School in Lindenhurst, New York from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. She consistently visited theaters, dramas, and historical centers with her parents, which led to her developing an excellent taste for acting from a very young age. After a near-fatal ectopic pregnancy at 37 years old, she embarked on her career in show business in the early 1980s as a receptionist and later a producer on Good Morning America.
Simultaneously, she began presenting comedy routines in small clubs in New York, before getting traction in more notable clubs. She is fond of writing and has published five books. In 1987, Behar got her own talk show, 'Way Off-Broadway, and in the same year, she also hosted the show Live from Queens.
