Evanna Lynch is an Irish actress, born on 16th August 1991, to the mother, Marguerite and father, Donal Lynch. She also has a younger brother named Patrick and two elder sisters, Emily and Mairead. She attended the Cartown National School till 2004 and then transferred to Our LadyÂ’s College in Drogheda, where her father was the deputy principle.
Evanna pursued speculative fiction and drama at the Centre for the Talented Youth of Ireland, a summer school for gifted teens in Glasnevin. She was a great fan of Harry Potter book series. Evanna read about the casting call on one of the Harry Potter fan sites and at the age of 14, she auditioned for the role of Luna Lovegood in the fifth series of Harry Potter (Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix).
It released in 2007, and it received positive reviews from the critics. It won many awards including the Choice Summer Movie Award at the Teen Choice Awards on 26th August 2007. Critics appreciated Evanna’s performance in the film. A.O Scott described her performance as “spellbinding”.
Later, she also starred in the next two sequels of Harry Potter. In 2009, She achieved the Best Supporting Actress title at the Scream Awards, for her performance in the ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’. She suffered from anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder and battled with it for two years.
She wrote an essay titled ‘Why the Body Bind is My Nightmare’, wherein she described her emotional struggle with her appearance and how she managed to deal this with the use of quotations that pertain to the Harry Potter series.
There is a cat named after her character, Luna. In 2010, She participated in the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ireland and launched their MS Readathon fundraiser. She is also associated with the Harry Potter Alliance (HPA), a non-profit organisation, as the advisory board member.
