Born in Kansas City on March 28, 1948, Dianne Wiest has appeared in some movies including ‘Hannah & Her Sisters’ (1986) and ‘Bullets over Broadway’ (1996), both of which earned her Academy Awards for the best-supporting actress as well as Golden Globe Awards too. ’Parenthood’ in 1989 directed by Ron Howard earned her 3rd nomination at the 62nd Academy Awards. Other movies like ‘The Birdcage’, ‘Edward Scissorhands’, ‘Practical Magic’ has earned her several other awards and nominations, making her one of the acclaimed and praised actresses of all time. She originally wants to be a ballerina, which later switched to the theatre at the University of Maryland. She did some off and on Broadway shows such as Solitaire/Double Solitaire, Our Town, The Lower Depths, etc. Her performance in the play ‘Museum and the Art of Diving’ won her three off-Broadway theatre awards.
Her appearance in the Dramatic Series ‘Avonlea’ earned her 1st Emmy in the outstanding guest Actress category and got nominated for the telefilm ‘The Simple Life of Noah Dearborn’ in 1999. Her role in the HBO sitcom ‘In Treatment’ got her 2nd Emmy and got nominated for the 2nd season as well. Her latest projects include Passengers (2008), The Odd Life of Timothy Green (2012), The Humbling (2014), The Nights in Maine and Sisters (2015). She appeared in the National Memorial Day Concert on the Mall in Washington, D.C. celebrating the life of an American veteran seriously wounded in Iraq. She has also taught at Columbia University's Graduate Acting Program as a visiting teacher. She never married and currently lives with her adopted daughters, Emily, and Lily.
