Hassani Shapi

Hassani Shapi is Kenyan actor and director hailing from Mombasa which is a city located on the coast of Kenya. He was born on 15 July 1973. He knows around five languages namely, Italian, Swahili, French, Arabic, and English. He completed his education at Aga Khan High School, Nairobi. He developed a passion for acting from an early age when he was five years of age. At the end of schooling, he was told to do a stage performance act on "Chuck Berry’s Come on let’s twist again". This performance inspired him to choose a career in acting. His parents however did not want him to waste his time on acting, and pick up something more serious, in their opinion. So, Hassani trained to be a teacher at Kenya Science Teacher's College in Nairobi.

Then he did teach for a year. His father always wanted him to study medicine. So, eventually, he ended up taking up a Master's Degree in Veterinary Surgery from Maisons- Alfort which is a commune at Paris, France. All this while, he had the acting bug reminding him to make a career in acting. For his father’s satisfaction, he worked for a year in quite a big veterinary clinic in Paris. Then, he decided and chose to drop all these and enter the world of acting. Hassani waited for his precious ‘dream come true’ moment for a very long time. He worked with dedication in theater and dramas. He did numerous shows which included "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", "Don Quixote", "Animal Farm", etc. In 1992, he made his small screen debut in some episodes of the series, "Runaway Bay".

He is best known and remembered for the character role of Jedi Master Eeth Koth in "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace".
