Elie Saab, born on the 4th July, 1964, is a world famous Lebanese fashion Designer. His head office is in Lebanon, and other offices and workshops are in Paris and Milan. In the early 1980s he made his first atelier, using expensive clothing, pearls, jewels, silk threads. He also became a member of the Camera Nazionale Della Moda in Italy in1997. In 2016, records show that his collections were available in Paris, London and Beirut. Ready-to-wear clothes designed by Saab are also found in his official stores and many other retailers.
Elie Saab’s father was a wood merchant. He had five children and Elie was the eldest. Early in his life he started sewing. He was born to Maronite Catholic parents and his birthplace was Damour in Beirut. He was self-trained and he became interested in fashion designing since the age of eight. His sister served as a model, and he used to cut pictures out of papers and use clothing from his mother’s wardrobe to design clothes from a very young age. Saab studied fashion from Paris, and he opened his company in Beirut. He worked with a group of fifteen people at the age of eighteen, in 1982.
Earlier he specialized in designing bridal costumes, wedding dresses and he used expensive clothing, pearls, stones, laces to make those clothes. As he made clothes for women in Beirut, his reputation grew there. After some time when he earned enough reputation, women belonging to higher social status started to adorn his designs. Outside Lebanon, he first showed off his collections at Rome, in 1997. He also started his ready-to-wear and accessories collection in Milan. In the later part of 1998, he signed a contract for cosmetics and fragrances with Beauty Prestige International.
He held a fashion show with Princess Stephanie of Monaco present, in Monaco in the same year. According to records, one of his dresses, adorned with diamonds and emeralds, were sold for two and a half million dollars. Elie also became famous in United States of America when he designed a dress for an Oscar winner. He first demonstrated his collection in the genre, Haute Couture in Paris in the same year. Saab, along with many renowned and famous designers of his time was selected to design the clothes for The Beyonce Experience Tour in 2007. Saab made designer dresses for hundred and two celebs, while his previous figure was forty.
When Madame Tussauds made a statue of
in 2011, the statue was wearing a dress designed by Elie which she wore at the 63rd Filmfare Awards. His first perfume was Le Parfium. Queen Rania of Jordan, Queen Victoria, Sweden’s Crown Princess, and many high profile women have adorned his designs. He also designed clothing for many Hollywood stars like
. He presently lives with his wife Claudine and his three sons happily in Lebanon. They also have their properties elsewhere in Geneva and France.
