Eric Darnell

Eric Darnell took birth in the Prairies Village of Kansas in the United States of America in the year 1961. He is a multi-talented personality who has worked in the entertainment industry for so many years as a film director as well as an animator along with a screenwriter. He has also played the part of a voice actor for several films too. Eric was a student of Shawnee Mission East High School, and here he was a writer for ‘Harbinger’ which was the name of his school’s newspaper. After doing his schooling, he enrolled himself at the University of Colorado which is located at Boulder where he studied the course of broadcast journalism. Eric finished his graduation in the year 1983 after which he took a break for four years in which he took to the basement of his house. It is here that he researched and worked on experimental cinema.

It was this conviction towards his work and also his research that got him enrolled into the California Institute of Art in the program of International Experimental Animation. While he was working towards his goal of becoming a successful and renowned film director he also directed a music video in the year 1989 which was an R.E.M song named ‘Get up.’ After his education was complete regarding film-making, Eric joined the firm named Public Data Images in which he worked as a character animator.

He left PDI and was recruited in the Dream Works production, but it was only after the PDI merged with Dream Works production that he was given the biggest break of his life which was to co-direct the film Antz with Tim Johnson. This movie went on to become the world’s second feature film which was computer animated. He also took on the job of writing the story for the 2001 movie Shrek. It was in this flick that he also exhibited his talent of songwriting because he wrote a song named ‘Welcome to Duloc.’ He also has to his credit the three Madagascar movies which he co-directed with Tom MacGrath. Eric is married to his beautiful wife named Laura, and they have a son named Rex and a daughter Leah.
