Jet Tilakamonkul, also known as Jet Tila (Chet Tilakamonkun), is a celebrity chef and restaurateur from the United States. He was born to Thai-Chinese parents in Los Angeles, US, on 6th February 1975 and then is married to Allison. They have two children: Amaya, a daughter, and Ren, a son.
Tila arrived in the United States in 1966 separately. His ancestors hail from Hainan, a small island province in southern China.
Jet Tila works primarily as a chef, culinary anthropologist, business owner, and Food Network celebrity. He has strong roots in the industry. Jet Tila is the executive chef of “The Charleston” and “Pakpao Thai,” two famous restaurants. His television appearances include “Beat Bobby Flay, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen, and Guy's Grocery Games.” He competed on “Iron Chef America,” a food competition show. However, "The Iron Chef" defeated him.
He returned as the floor reporter for “Iron Chef America” in 2018. Tila received $20,000 as the successful contestant in Guy's “Grocery Games "Delivery: All-Star Noodles" during one of his performances. “The Royal Thai Consulate-General” in Los Angeles awarded Tila the ceremonial status of "culinary ambassador" for Thailand. Among other food-related records, he has also participated in the world's largest stir-fry, world's largest seafood stew, world's largest fruit salad, and world's largest California roll.
Jet has also teamed up with Wynn Resorts. He opened Wazuzu, a revolutionary Pan-Asian restaurant, at the Encore Casino and Resort on the Las Vegas Strip. He inspired and developed various innovations in collaboration with Compass Group, the world's largest foodservice provider. Jet attended and completed his culinary school at “Le Cordon Bleu.” He developed a framework of traditional French techniques to elevate his broad knowledge of Asian food. He fluidly conveyed his artistic qualities and vision through food.
Jet pursued an intense study program at the “California Sushi Academy” in addition to his Le Cordon Bleu credentials. His cooking primarily consists of Thai and Chinese cuisines. Jet wrote the award-winning book “101 Asian Dishes You Must Cook Before You Die: Authentic Recipes” to Discover a New World of Flavors. This book is a chronicle of culinary tradition and its rediscovery. The novel follows a child growing up in Los Angeles in a Thai and Chinese household. He was born to a notable chef and restaurant owner.
