Gary Rhodes, a renowned restaurant owner and television chef, was famous for his passion for English cuisine and locally sourced ingredients. He owned multiple restaurants and was the face of various popular television cookery shows, including MasterChef, MasterChef USA, Hell's Kitchen, and Rhodes around Britain. Gary also owned a line of cookware and bread mixes fea-turing his name.
Born on 22 April 1960 in London, England, Gary attended the Howard School in Rainham be-fore pursuing a catering course in Thanet. His first job was at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel. Subsequently, before becoming sous chef at the Reform Club at Pall Mall, he had done many jobs in Europe. After a short while, he worked under Brian Turner. Gradually, Rhodes became the head chef of Castle Hotel, Taunton in Somerset. In 1990, he became the head chef of the Greenhouse restaurant in Mayfair.
He was awarded a Michelin star for the Greenhouse in 1996. The following year, Gary opened his 1st restaurant, City Rhodes & in 1998, Rhodes in the Square. In 2003, following the closures of these two restaurants, he opened Rhodes Twenty Four in London in Tower 42. Rhodes' first TV appearance was on Hot Chefs. After this came the show Rhodes around Britain in 1994 & Gary's Rhodes' Perfect Christmas in 1998. He presented more TV series including Gary Rhodes' New British Classics and two seasons of Original MasterChef USA.
Gary Rhodes began multiple series including “Rhodes across India” and “Rhodes across China”. In 2011, he relocated to Dubai and became the head chef of Rhodes Mezzanine at the Grosvenor House Hotel and Rhodes Twenty10 at Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort and Spa. Rhodes was a dedicated supporter of the Manchester United football club.
