Salma Akhter, born Moushumi Akhter Salma, is a Bangladeshi singer, specialized in folk songs. She was born on 1st January 1991 in Gangarampur, Bangladesh. Salma went to Taragunia High School in Khustia. She also earned a diploma in higher education from BPP University, London. She started her music lessons at the age of four. Baul Shafi Mandal is her mentor, who taught her both classical and folk songs. She also learned music from Ustad Sanjib Dey. Salma was married to a businessman cum politician, Shibli Sadique, in 2010, and has a daughter with him. In 2016, they got divorced. In 2018, she married Sanaullah Noor Sagar and has a daughter with him.
In 2006, Salma participated in the second season of Close Up-1: Tomakei Khujchhey Bangladesh, the singing reality show, and won the title. Muhin is the first runner-up, and Nishita is the second runner-up of this season. She was just twelve. The same year, Baniya Bondhu, her first single, was released.
In 2007, her next solo album, Bondhu Aiyo Aiyo, was released. In 2008, the next single, Poraner Bondhu, was released. The same year, she crooned in the movie Mone Prane Acho Tumi, directed by Jakir Hossain Raju. In 2009, she released Matir Tara. In 2010, Bondhu Ailana, her next single, was released. The same year, Salma’s Binodini was released. In 2011, Salma released Brindabon. The same year, she crooned in the movie Matir Thikana, directed by Shah Alam Kiron, and music composed by Emon Shaha.
In 2012, she released Prfemer Janaza, a solo album. In 2015, Shopno Uraila, Salma’s next solo album, was released. In 2016, the solo album Anuraager Ghorey was released. In 2017, she worked on the solo album Mon Majhi. In 2020, the solo album Rongila Baroi and in 2021, another album Noya Daman were released. In 2025, Salma crooned Maya Lagare, a solo song.
