Dwijen Mukhopadhyay, born on 12th November 1927, was an exceptional composer and singer from Shumpukur locality, Kolkata. He was an avid exponent of Rabindrasangeet, one of the most popular genres of Bangla music, and an example of his work in the genre is in Bengali films like 'Kshudhita Pashan' (1960). In his commendable career, which extended to almost six decades, Dwijen wrote 1,500 songs, among which 800 were by Rabindranath Tagore. Debuting as a professional singer in 1944-45, he also started directing music in Bengali films. In 1946, he began acting as an artist for All India Radio (AIR) and worked at HMV Columbia Recording Company.
Together with the help of his friend, Salil Chowdhary, Dwijen gave the Bengali audience numerous hits like "Shyamal Barani Ogo Konya" "Klanti Name Go" "Ekdin Phire Jabo Chole" "Pallabini Go Sancharini" and many others. He then explored folk music and ultimately went on to work with

After being a part of such a musical phenomenon, Dwijen, being such a prestigious name in Rabindrasangeet, was also a member of the "Experts Committee" and the "Selections Committee" at Visva Bharti Music Board in Kolkata, which was responsible for certifying the authenticity of Tagore songs. In 2010, Dwijen was awarded Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in the Republic of India.
