Sabina Yasmin, a Bangladeshi playback singer, was born on 4th September 1954 in Dhaka. She hails from Satkhira. She was the youngest of five sisters born into a family embedded in music and culture. Zahir Rahman was her father and mother was Ustaad Kader Baksh a famous singer who taught her music to her daughter from a young age. Yasmin started gaining interest as a performer in Pakistan and eventually went on to making films. The film was pivotal to Yasmin establishing a foothold among the best playback singers in Bangladesh. With songs that included 'Sob Kota Janala' , 'Swadhinata Tumi' and ‘Sudhu Gaan Geye Porichoy’ from the film Abujh Mon, in which she performed the title song of the 1972 movie, she was well recognized. In 1975, for her outstanding portrayal in the film Sujon Sokhi, she was the first female whose name was registered in the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Playback Singer.

This made it possible for her to be in touch with the people belonging to the other generation.
