Jibanananda Das was a Bengali-language poet, author, novelist, and essayist from India. He was born in Barisal town on February 17, 1899. His father, Satyananda Das, was the Brahmabadi's founding editor as well as a social worker and educator. Kusumkumari Das, his mother, was a poet. He is known as "Rupashi Banglar Kabi" (literally, "Poet of Delightful Bengal"). Jibanananda Das passed his matric from Brajamohan School in 1915, received an IA from Barisal B M College in 1917, a BA with honors in English literature in 1919, and an MA in 1921 from Kolkata's Presidency College. In 1922, Jibanananda Das started his career as an English professor at Calcutta City College.

He continued to serve as an English professor at various colleges up until 1954. He was one of the most gifted poets in Bengali literature who came after Rabindranath Tagore and was regarded as avant-garde during the period in which he wrote. He also served as the Swaraj's literary editor during the time, as well as a member of the Dvandra's editorial board, a publication run by the Calcutta-based Samakalin Sahitya Kendra. When Jibanananda Das was a teenager, he enjoyed writing poetry. Varsa Abahan, his debut poetry, appeared in the Brahmabadi in 1919. His initial essay was composed in clear Bangla in honor of the late Kalimohan Das. Jibanananda Das has been referred to as a naturalist poet. His Dhusar Pandulipi is the singular reflection of his creative mind, whereby his lyrical imagination has beautifully captured the world around him, giving nature a dimension that is both greater and more vibrant. With his poems written in Bangla, he has created a fantastical universe that one can join but cannot leave. His poetry is centered on pure pain: life evolves and decays and everything ends in death. The rural Bengali poems of Jibanananda had a significant impact on Bangladesh's political and cultural outlook. Das published 108 short tales and 21 novels. Among Jibanananda Das' famous works are Ruposhi Bangla, Banalata Sen, Mahaprithibi, and Shreshtha Kavita; well-known novels are Malyaban (1973) and Sutirtha (1977).

At the All Bengal Rabindra Literary Conference in 1953, Das was given the Rabindra-Memorial Prize for Banalata Sen. The Sahitya Academy Prize went to Das's Shrestha Kavita in 1955. On October 22, 1954, he died in a tram accident in Kolkata.
