Sukankan Roy, who is one of the famous animation director, is noteworthy in the Bengali film industry. Born at Calcutta, he completed his schooling at Harthy’s high school, West Bengal. And earned his graduation B.Sc. in Geology at Ashutosh College and his diploma in animation at ZICA(Zee Institute of Creative Art). He is a working professional as an Animation design consultant in The National Institute of Design and visiting faculty of masterclasses for film students in SRFTI, Calcutta. He is one of the honorary members of the FICCI and AVGC executive team, a lobbyist for the Animation industry in the Central Government. By birth at the cultural capital of our country India, He raised around eminent artists and was exposed to world cinema from an early age.

He synergized himself as a man to evolve as an animation filmmaker. Coming from the old school of animation filmmaking and being trained by the best animation academic members both from the Eastern and Western world, Sukankan Roy emerged as an artistic filmmaker in the 2020s. He is an instrumental model for all the directors for his work in producing more than 4000 minutes of animation content alongside 60 odd television communities. He has directed more than 15 different animated television shows for various global TV platforms, 12 Indian and European DVD features,and 3 featured films in animation. Popular projects of his are Kindle wood (2009), Sound of joy(2015). Sound of joy is one of his famous work at this time. He created this story, an animated film that was based on Swami Vivekananda’s childhood stories.

This film was produced by Aura Cinematics which bagged the three national awards for the Best animated film, Best animator, Best Director. He is one of the content curator in Aptech academy. A director who was based on children’s content told in an interview of the above film as content writing on children’s books comes under a traditional way of thinking. His movie had been released in 2015, on the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda in Ramakrishna mission where he took four years of research on Vivekananda with the monks as his mentor. On the business side, he has been promoting several small enterprises and ITES companies over the past ten years. His company, Roy Holdings is working on the content of children’s books and animated movies. He was the one who brought several medium-sized animation and art houses of India to other countries. Overall, his work as an animator continues with his future projects.
