Debarati Gupta was born in Kolkata, India. She is a Director and Writer in the Bengali Film Industry. Debarati has completed her Bachelor’s in Communication and Media Studies from Sister Nivedita School and post-graduation in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Calcutta. She started her career as an assistant director for the Sri Lankan filmmaker Vimukhti Jayasundara for the movie Chatrak, which screened at International Film Festivals like Director’s Fortnight and Cannes.
She had also worked with Bengali filmmaker Bappaditya Bandyopadhyay as an Assistant Director and Writer. Debarati gained a lot of insight as an assistant director. She made her debut as a Director with the film Hoichoi in 2013. She has also worked as the Screenplay writer at Zee5 Premium. Debarati has also directed the movies Kalkijug, Kuheli, Onek Diner Pore, and Nakaab. Debarati had worked as a Freelance Writer at FUJIFILM Corporation and as a Senior Consultant at HiTech Animation. She works as a Freelance Columnist as well.
