Sahil Rony

Sahil Rony was born in Jessore, Bangladesh, on 25 October 1983. The world of cinema would always glitter like gold in his eyes which led him to join Annapurna College of Film and Media, Hyderabad, Telangana, in 2002, to do cinematography. He then works as a freelancer in cinematography from 2007. He worked in The Film Society of Lincoln Center at Freelance Filmmaker from 5 January 2007 till 14 May 2015. He is currently working as a director/cinematographer in MAD-suitcase since 2007, a company in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

He was the former cinematographer at Deepto TV in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 14 May 2014 till 3 September 2020. He is very fluent in English and Bangla language. Rony is now one of the youngest cinematographers of the present generation who works in the film industry and the television world, responsible for making artistic and technical decisions in the cinemas.

He believes that the Director of Photography(DOP) or a cinematographer is responsible for the visual imagery seen in the theaters. He believes that a director must be a decent person. A director has to make a plotline easily understandable to the audience, which is what Rony believes. Every story should have a theme that creates excitement in the viewer and educates them. A cinematographer is an eye behind the camera that adjusts according to the director's wish the picture's lighting, depth of field, shot color, camera motion, etc. He believes that if one needs to be a filmmaker, one should nurture the 3 Ps - passion, patience, perseverance.

He wants to explore new technology and wants to work with nature. Rony gained fame after directing the short film Manush (The Soul). Manush was his first film as a director, and it was an international hit and earned him many awards. He received critical acclaim both in India and Bangladesh.
