Swapan Nayak is an Indian Cinematographer/Photographer born in 1965 in Kolkata, India. He spent his childhood in Bangaon, a small city in West Bengal. Before becoming a photographer, Swapan was studying a Chartered Accountancy course. Since 1995, he has worked as a professional photographer in and out of India. His work has been exhibited and published nationally and internationally. He has worked as a Photojournalist for 18 years. His previous work includes- A series on people living on floating islands on the Brahmaputra river, Nowhere People, Refugees in their Land- A series on people of the northeastern states of India. Swapan documented his work with Black and White film.
Swapan has focused on depicting the relationship between Nature and Humans through his photography. Through his images, he tries to capture transitory supernatural beauty and the joys of spirituality. He has been awarded the 2002-03 National Media Fellowship, the National Senior Fellowship in photography(2009-2011) by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and the Nirmaan photography fellowship award(2006). News Week, Southern Exposure, Asia Week, Time, and many more published Swapan's work.
